carb cleaner yes or no ?

Post by ryder » Sat May 02, 2015 11:02 pm

For riders with carb bikes - ie 1300s - is there a downside to running carb cleaner in a tank of gas ? Use it or not? Waste of $ or good practice?
my ride is a 2005 1300 with carb not fuel injection.
Right now the bike is running fine so my carb is not an issue but i am wondering if this is a good move as preventative measure?
thanks

I have a 1300 also. I've always figured that if it works then don't fix it. I use fuel conditioner in the winter and that's about it..
When I was younger I had a buddy that bought a used bike that had sat for a couple of years and the carb was gummed up. We took the carb off and soaked it in carb cleaner for a week and it was good to go again. That's the only time I used carb cleaner on a bike.
Maybe times are different with different gas makeups. That's all I know ....for what it's worth. :)

I have run seafoam carb cleaner in my 1300r a couple times a year and never had a problem.

I use Techron Fuel System cleaner a couple times a season from a suggestion on VTXOA as well as Seafoam a couple times a season. Don't know if it helps...but isn't making anything worse...LOL
